The Austin Live Music Academy is a comprehensive commercial music program for post-secondary school aged musicians. Located in the "live music capital of the world", ALMA offers a thorough curriculum as well as the benefits of the Austin music scene. The faculty is a combination of local world-class musicians and Graduate students at the University of Texas. Students at ALMA are exposed to a wide array of "real world" tutelage, along with a strong technical/theoretical experience. Courses cover private instruction, theory, ear training, history, music business and more.

Who is ALMA?

The ALMA faculty consists of instructors from both the School of Music and the Austin music community, bringing the best of the professional and academic worlds together to create a productive environment for the ALMA student. Courses in songwriting, music business, and recording are taught by some of Austin’s finest professional musicians who enjoy successful careers in the industry. Private lessons, theory and ear training are taught by engaging School of Music faculty that also have extensive professional experience. Recording classes are taught at Austin’s Bismeaux Studios, one of the country’s premiere recording facilities established in the early 1990’s by Asleep at the Wheel founder Ray Benson. Frequent guest speakers help students establish a strong connection with current trends in the industry.
