The University of Texas Voice and Opera program provides the vocal training and background necessary to move into the professional and education setting. The Voice and Opera faculty is diverse and brings to the School of Music the highest level of professionalism and performing experience. Our graduates are well prepared for professional careers in opera, higher education, and public school teaching.

You will find many vocal performance opportunities in the School of Music, from solo recital and opera to choral ensembles. Among the performance opportunities designed to provide students with experience and growth are: Opera Theatre, Opera Scenes, Graduate Opera performance, Undergraduate Opera Performance, Solo/Ensemble Recitals, Opera Performance Class, Opera Coaching, Chamber Singers, Concert Chorale, Choral Arts Society, Community Outreach.

The UT Opera Program and Opera Theatre present fully produced diverse productions during the academic year. 2002-03 repertoire includes: The Elixir of Love, The Telephone and the Medium, Gianni Schicchi, Suor Angelica, Two Opera Scenes Evenings. 2003-04 repertoire considerations are: La Vida Breve, Don Giovanni, The Old Majestic (Premiere Production), Las Tentaciones de San Antonio (American Premiere production), Opera Scenes.

In addition to the outstanding School of Music performance opportunities there is also a European opera summer program in affiliation with the Austrian American Mozart Academy, Salzburg, Austria and an exchange program with the Conservatorio de las Rosas, Morelia, Mexico. These programs provide yearlong and summer opportunities for students to study voice and opera in foreign countries.
