The Middle School Band program is designed to accommodate musicians ranging from the most talented and proficient to the less experienced, with a minimum of one year of training on their chosen instrument. It is open to
entering grades 7, 8 or 9. The concert bands are conducted by outstanding band directors from around the state. This session provides an excellent opportunity for young musicians to improve their individual performance skills. Instruction includes rehearsals, sectionals, master classes, supervised practice, and optional private lessons. Students who have completed the 8th grade may register for Middle School and/or
High School Band Camp.
The camp culminates with a required student performance.

Honors Wind Ensemble Camp (by invitation only): June 23–29, 2013

The Honors Wind Ensemble is designed for the more advanced students. Membership in the Honors Wind Ensemble is open to invited participants who are
entering grades 10, 11 or 12. In addition to performing in the Honors Wind Ensemble, participants receive individualized instruction and chamber music coaching from our renowned School of Music faculty, as well as opportunities for elective study in the areas of conducting, computer music, piano, musicianship and music theory.
The camp culminates with a required chamber music concert and a full ensemble concert.

The High School Harp Solo and Ensemble Workshop is open to
entering grades 9, 10, 11 or 12. The program is an exciting week of solo and ensemble experiences exploring classical traditions and improvisational styles. In addition, participants have the opportunity to attend special master classes on a variety of topics including selected orchestral audition excerpts, chamber music, harp maintenance, and career discussions. Delaine Fedson, UT Harp Senior Lecturer, conducts.

The High School Choir Camp is open to choral students who are
entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12. Intensive study of the upcoming All-State repertoire is the primary focus of this acclaimed program for high school singers. One set of the All-State audition music will be provided to each camper at no additional charge. **Students need not have previously been a member of a TMEA All-State choral ensemble.** Professor James Morrow, Director of Choral Activities, and Professor Suzanne Pence, Professor of Choral Music Education, conduct.

students entering grades 10-12. Young jazz musicians will have the opportunity to develop and improve their improvisational abilities. Activities include jazz combos, jazz theory, improvisation classes, jazz history, listening, and instrumental master classes.

Longhorn Marimba Intensive Workshop: June 9–June 14, 2013

The Longhorn Marimba Intensive Workshop, hosted by Thomas Burritt, is a week long rigorous exposure to all aspects of marimba performance. All sessions will be led by Butler School of Music percussion faculty and special guest artist Michael Burritt from the Eastman School of Music. Open to intermediate through advanced high school students
entering grades 11 and 12, all college students, and professional educators, participants will perform for faculty, participate in master-classes, and experience a curriculum developed especially for the emerging artist. Significant time will be allotted for individual practice each day. Participants are required to bring their own practice instrument.

Butler Opera Center Young Artists Program: June 3&4, 10&11, 13&14, 17&18, 24&25, 27&28, 2013

The Butler Opera Center Young Artist Program is designed to provide advanced vocal training for high school juniors & seniors, and college freshmen & sophomore singers. Our goal is to prepare young singers for voice auditions, admission, and successful integration to nationally recognized music programs. This intensive five-week program meets every Monday and Tuesday in June to engage students in a variety of classes, lessons, and performance opportunities. The program culminates with performances on June 27 and 28.

The Mariachi program is designed to provide high school students with expert instruction from active professionals. It is open to

On June 3, 2013 the Butler Opera Center Young Artist Program begins its fourth season on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Recognized by college and high school faculty as the premier high school solo voice training program in Texas, the BOCYAP offers world-class training for talented high school and early college students. As featured in Classical Singer magazine, the curriculum includes individual voice instruction with the internationally acclaimed faculty of the Butler School of Music, as well as classes related to the art of singing. Included are sessions specifically designed to prepare young singers for the application and audition process for undergraduate music schools and professional young artist programs, as well as an art song competition. At the end of the program, students will perform a Solo and Opera Scenes Concert comprised of musical theater and opera scenes.

The Butler Opera Center Young Artist Program is designed to provide advanced vocal training for high school sophomore, juniors, seniors, and early college students within Texas. The ultimate goal is to prepare high school singers for voice auditions and admission to nationally recognized music programs. This four -week program will meet:

The BOCYAP, which is two days per week (Monday and Tuesday), will divide singers into two groups, Company A and Company B. Company A will meet on Mondays only, and Company B will on Tuesdays only. The second week of instruction includes two extra days, June 13 & 14 (one for each company). The curriculum will include individual voice instruction and classes related to the art of singing, including diction classes, song and aria interpretation, dance and the science behind vocal production. There will also be courses designed to prepare young singers for the application and audition process of undergraduate music schools and professional young artist programs. These courses range from instruction on how to dress, learning skills that are tested on entrance and diagnostic exams and a mock audition with professional and personal feedback. At the end of the program, students will perform in a Solo and Opera Scenes Concert that will exhibit what the student has learned throughout the program.

All payment for the program is due May 15, 2013 along with completed application and audition. Students will be responsible for transportation to and from the University Of Texas Butler School Of Music. Students will also be responsible for wearing appropriate dress at the mock audition class and the Scenes/Solo Concert. Admission to the concert will be free of charge. Scholarships will be available to select students upon acceptance to the program. Audition Information:
Auditions will be held March 2nd and 3rd, 2013 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm in room MRH 2.614 at the Butler School of Music on The University of Texas at Austin Campus. We will provide information on directions and parking upon application completion
Those not able to attend the live auditions may provide an unedited DVD or submit a Youtube recording by March 1st. If you are submitting a DVD, it must be mailed to the following address, along with your application:

The audition will consist of one aria or art song chosen by the singer. Approximately 80 students will be selected to participate in the program. Selection will be merit based as judged by a qualified panel of judges.
There will be a staff pianist available free of charge for those who are not accompanied by their own pianist.
