Choral Arts Society

Under the direction of Dr. James Morrow and in the tradition of the former Choral Union, the UT Choral Arts Society combines talented UT students, faculty, and staff with experienced singers from the greater Austin area in performing major choral works with orchestra, as well as a cappella and chamber works. The 2002-2003 inaugural season featured performances of the Brahms Requiem, the Szymanowski Stabat Mater, Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony, and the Verdi Requiem. Subsequent seasons have included performances of Dan Welcher’s JFK: The Voice of Peace with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s The Creation, the Bruckner Mass in E Minor, Bernstein Chichester Psalms, Fauré Requiem, Mozart C Minor Mass, and Beethoven Choral Fantasy with pianist Anton Nel. In the 2005-2006 season they performed a concert of English cathedral music with organists Judith and Gerre Hancock, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle with soloists from the Houston Grand Opera Studio, and an all-Brahms program. Last year they celebrated their fifth season with performances of the Rachmaninoff Vespers, Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music, as well as another concert of English choral works.
