Vincent R. DiNino holds the title of Director of Bands Emeritus at The University of Texas at Austin. Mr. DiNino began his career at UT in 1955. He was the Director of the Longhorn Band from 1955-1975 and Director of University Bands until his retirement in 1985. He brought the band to national prominence through its performances in 17 major bowl games, the 1974 Super Bowl game, the inaugural parades of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, at the dedication of the LBJ library and at the inauguration of many Texas governors. Additionally, he took the Longhorn Band on its only international tour to South America in 1972. Prior to coming to Texas, Mr. DiNino was Chairman of public school music in Alexandria, Minnesota. He had also directed bands in Iowa, Michigan and California and served as Director of Bands at the University of Minnesota. A French horn player, Mr. DiNino has played with the Minneapolis Symphony, with military bands during World War II, and with a number of radio and recording orchestras in Hollywood and New York. Stationed in California during the war, he headed the "General Stillwell Band." Following the war, he played French horn and arranged for Tommy Dorsey, Skitch Henderson, Dick Stabile, Stan Kenton, Boyd Raeburn and Johnny Richards. "Mr. D," as he is affectionately known, is listed in the "Who's Who in Music" and is a member of Phi Sigma Phi and Kappa Kappa Psi, honorary band fraternities. He is also a member of Phi Beta Mu, the national bandmaster's fraternity and is the author of "Marching Bands 'Through the Eyes of Texas'."
