The oboe studio at UT is a challenging and supportive environment where the serious oboe student can develop his/her own unique musical voice while learning the musical and technical skills necessary to secure a successful career in music. Emphasis is placed on the development of skills through the Barret Oboe Method and through the practice of scales and long-tones; the development of tone production through long tones, embouchure building, and breathing exercises; a deep understanding of the elements of phrasing and musical style; and preparation for the profession through extensive work on solo repertoire, orchestral excerpts, and reed making.
