Student Achievements
 

KEVIN BERG (MM '09; DMA '12) was a finalist in the audition for principal oboist with the San Francisco Opera in November of 2009.

STEPHEN KEY (BM '10) is a winner of this year's UTSO concerto competition. He will perform Hummel's Them and Variations with the UTSO in February of 2010.

SUSAN TOMKIEWICZ has been appointed Assistant Professor at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. She will begin teaching there in the fall of 2009

LINDSAY TAYLOR (BM '08) was appointed oboist with the Xin Kong Qi Orchestra in Bei Jing, China for the 2008-09 season. She also toured Europe with the Bei Jing Symphony Orchestra in the spring of 2009.

DAN SCHWARTZ (MM '08) was accepted into the National Repertory Orchestra for it's 2008 summer festival season. He is currently working on his DMA at the Eastman School of Music. Dan was awarded "Outstanding Graduate Recital" for his MM degree recital at UT. His arrangement of John Corigliano's Concerto for Oboe (arranged for oboe, two percussionists, piano, and off-stage oboe) was so successful that Mr. Corigliano has asked his publishers to include the separate percussion parts in future publications of the work!

DAN was a finalist in the audition for Principal Oboist of the Grant Park Orchestra in Chicago, and a semi-finalist in the audition for Principal Oboist of the San Francisco Ballet.

JENNIFER BERNARD (MM '07) is Oboe Instructor at Texas Lutheran University, Principal oboist with the Laredo Philharmonic, English hornist with the Victoria Symphony, and a frequent performer with the Austin and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestras. She is a founding member of the Anime Winds.

LINDSAY TAYLOR (BM '08) performed as guest second oboist with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra in December, 2007.

TENLY WILLIAMS (MM '05) is Second oboist and English hornist with the Boulder Philharmonic, and Principal oboist with the Steamboat Springs Symphony Orchestra. She gave the world premiere of Joseph Landers' "Aspects of Casseiopeia" for oboe and guitar at the 2008 IDRS Conference in Utah.

CRYSTAL STOHR HALL (MM '04) was a faculty member at the Marrowstone Music Festival in Bellingham, Washington this summer ('08), and performed with the Mid-Summer Music Festival in Wisconsin. She is Principal oboist with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and the oboist and director of education for the Fifth House Ensemble in Chicago: http://www.fifth-house.com

DAN SCHWARTZ (MM '08) and ANDREW JACOBSON (BM '04) were both invited to audition for principal oboe of the Seattle Symphony after a CD round (fall of '07). Both received favorable reviews from the audition committee.

STEFANI IDE (BM '07) was accepted into the MM degree program at the Shepard School of Music at Rice University

ANDREW JACOBSON (BM '04) completed his MM degree in oboe performance at Eastman, and is freelancing in the Washington, D.C. area. He recently performed as second oboist with the National Symphony Orchestra in a concert under the baton of Loren Maazel.

LEIGH ANN WOODARD (DMA in progress) is featured prominently on the new release by Indian mega-star A.R. Rahmann, "Pray For Me, Brother," and on a film score by the same composer.

AMY BURGUS (DMA '07) is Oboe Instructor at Texas A&M Kingsville. She performs as Second oboist with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra.

SUMMER '08 FESTIVALS - Several of the UT oboe students were on a European tour with the UT Wind Ensemble in the summer of '08. On the program was John Corigliano's "Circus Maximus," which was written for UT's Wind Ensemble. Other students participating in summer music festivals were:
