UT Trombone Studio Highlights 2008-2009
 

The UT Trombone Choir presented concerts in the Washington DC area, March 17 – 21. The tour included a concert and masterclass at Morgan State University (Baltimore, MD), a performance and lecture at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Herndon (VA), and a showcase concert in Arlington, Virginia at the Eastern Trombone Workshop -- one the world’s largest annual trombone events. The group received rave reviews and standing ovations on each occasion.

The Trombone Choir performed locally on the Saint Mary Cathedral Concert Series, for the UT Honors Convocation in Bass Hall, the Donald Knaub Celebration Concert in Bates, and for the Barbara Jordon Statue unveiling ceremony.

The Choir released a new cd this past summer, God’s Trombones, a collection of sacred music for trombone choir, on the new Longhorn Music label.

Visiting trombone artists for 2008-2009 included: Jacques Mauger (internationally acclaimed soloist and trombone professor at the Paris Conservatory), Doug Yeo (bass trombonist for the Boston Symphony), Harry Waters (Washington DC-based jazz recording artist), Mark Hetzler (new music specialist and trombonist for the Empire Brass Quintet), Irvin Wagner (Professor of Trombone at the University of Oklahoma and a past president of the International Trombone Association), andJohn Kitzman (Dallas Symphony principal trombonist .
