The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is required for applicants to Music & Human Learning, Music Theory, Musicology, and Ethnomusicology. Performance and Composition applicants are not required to submit a GRE score.
GRE scores should be received by GIAC by the admission deadline, December 1, 2013. GRE scores are valid for five years from the date the test was taken. If you have an expired score older than five years, you must take the test again. Please consult the Educational Testing Services (ETS) website for more information.
The ETS university code for UT is 6882. There is no separate or additional department code for the Butler School of Music. All applicants must request that ETS report official scores directly to the University of Texas. Score sheets submitted by the student electronically or by mail are not accepted by the University. Since scores typically take 3-4 weeks to arrive and be processed, applicants should request their score no later than November 1 in order to meet the December 1 deadline.
There is no minimum required total score but it is recommended that the combined score be above 300 (or 1000 in the old scoring system). NOTE: for international applicants, the one requirement is that you score higher than 140 (or 400 in the old scoring system) on the verbal portion of the exam.
If the GRE is not available in your country please contact Daniel Seriff, Graduate Admissions Coordinator, at email@example.com or (512) 471-5496.
