As a part of our observation of the 60th anniversary of the death of poet Dylan Thomas, the New Music Ensemble is featuring two seminal 20th century pieces based on his writing. Guest tenor Richard Fracker from Michigan State University will sing both Igor Stravinsky's IN MEMORIAM DYLAN THOMAS (based on "Do not go gentle into that good night") and John Corigliano's POEM IN OCTOBER. Also featured on the program are two works of Charles Ives: FROM THE STEEPLES AND THE MOUNTAINS and SCHERZO: OVER THE PAVEMENTS. Trevor Gurekis' MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE (inspired by a poem of Richard Brautigan) and UT student composer Brandon Rumsey's new work SPELLBOUND will round out the program. The concert is free (no tickets required). |
