Details: The New Music Ensemble ends the fall semester with a literal bang from a pop-gun! Four recent works, one a world premiere, will delight and entertain you.

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts (a former UT faculty member) will be represented by a brand-new piece of chamber music, SEVEN SEASCAPES for mixed ensemble. This lush and dramatic work is inspired by lines about the sea by six poets, and provides lyrical and philosophical context.

Also on the program will be a world premiere by a current UT student composer, undergraduate Brian Heim. His TWO PORTRAITS after Moby-Dick is a chamber orchestra work, characterized by avant-garde sounds and post-modern aesthetics. It's anything but a literal description of Melville…

Faculty composer Donald Grantham, whose birthday was recently celebrated, will be featured in his 1990 work LASCIVIOUS LOVE SONGS. There are six of these, set to poetry of e. e. cummings that reference the seamier side of love. Kathryn Findlen will sing.

Finally, New York composer Robert Paterson's LOONEY TUNES, a madcap sendup of Warner Brothers characters like the Tasmanian Devil, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety Bird, and Road Runner. Featuring electric guitar and electric bass guitar, along with a forest of special effects and toy instruments, this 16-minute romp will have you giggling for hours after the concert.

Come out and hear some new music! The concert is free and no tickets are required.
