Longhorn Music Camp Counselor Requirements
It is required that applicants for the position of counselor be a U.T. School of
Music student and/or a member of a Butler School of Music ensemble during the 2007–08
school year. Graduating seniors may apply as counselors for the Summer 2008 camps.
Interviews will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2007 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Counselors must be able and willing to meet all of the following expectations:
-
As a courtesy to the camp administration, please apply only for camps that you are
willing to accept should you be assigned. Because day camp is now an option to all
campers with the exception of Honors Wind Ensemble participants, all counselor applicants
will be considered for both residential and day camp positions.
-
Be available from 12:00 p.m. Saturday, the day before the camp begins, through the
following Saturday, the last day of camp, until 5:00 p.m. This time period includes
facilities preparation, registration, auditions, orientation, daytime activities/rehearsals,
evening activities, necessary post-camp duties on the final day of the camp, and
any other duties that may be assigned by camp administration during the course of
the camp week. There will also be a counselor retreat one Friday–Saturday in May
(date to be determined) that you will need to attend.
- Counselors are expected to be present at all assigned duties. Counselors may attend
UT classes during camp. However, special permission must be obtained in order to
take more than 3 hours of class per day. Scheduling issues must be resolved prior
to camp.
-
Each Counselor may be assigned up to 15–20 students as their "community." Counselors
will be responsible for their community at all times to include: meals, recreation
periods, evening activities, night check, and lights-out. The Camp Coordinator may
assign other responsibilities.
-
Counselors may NOT leave their assigned dorm areas at night without the prior approval
of the Camp Coordinators.
-
Full payment of stipend is contingent upon successful completion of all assigned
duties and compliance with all camp rules, and completion of any necessary payroll
forms. Middle School and High School Band, Honors Wind Ensemble, and Harp and Middle
School String Orchestra residential counselors will receive room, board and $275.00.
Day camp counselors for these same sessions will receive lunch and $175.00. Choir
and High School Orchestra residential counselors will receive room, board and $130.00
and day camp counselors will receive lunch and $100.00.
-
Counselors are expected to address their camp duties with the highest ethical and
moral standards. You may need to confront the following issues: physical safety,
alcohol, drug abuse, sexual activities, firearms, angry parents, or disappearance
from the camp.
- The use of alcohol, inappropriate language, or social contact with campers is strictly
prohibited at all times for the duration of the camp. This includes 21st Birthday
parties. Inappropriate social contact with other counselors is also strictly prohibited.
If you are a smoker, you may not smoke in the presence of campers. Please inform
the coordinator on the first day of camp if you desire smoke breaks.
Longhorn Music Camp requests your patience regarding notification of acceptance
as a counselor. Determination of the number of counselors required is made as registration
reaches its peak. We will do our best to keep you informed.
