Butler School of Music
Sarah and Ernest Butler Opera Center

The nationally recognized Sarah and Ernest Butler Opera Center is devoted to the development of graduate students interested in operatic performance.

Graduate degrees are offered in Opera with emphasis in Voice, Opera Directing, and Opera Coaching. Students are selected by audition for participation in any of the Center's activities. BOC presents three fully produced main stage production each academic year (October, February, April) in the Texas Performing Arts, McCullough Theatre.

The 2012-13 Season includes: Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini, Les Enfants Terrible by Phillip Glass, and Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart in addition to Opera Scenes and Aria Concerts.

Fall 2012, the Butler Opera Center and the Austin Lyric Opera have commenced a joint collaborative program designed to provide professional opera experiences for singers through participation in Outreach Programs and AOL main stage productions.

Recent BOC productions include: The chamber orchestration premiere of La hija de Rapaccini by Daniel Catan, premiere of New York Stories by Daron Hagen, The Consul by Menotti, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss.

How to join

SARAH AND ERNEST BUTLER OPERA CENTER
Auditions for ALL 2013-14 Butler Opera Center activities will take place Monday, August 26, 2013, McCullough Theatre, TPA

Auditions for GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY will take place from 11:00- 2:00pm.

Only GRADUATE students are to sign up for this time.

Sign up sheets are located on the BOC Bulletin Board, 3rd Floor, TPA beginning August 5, 2013

Auditions will take place in McCullough Theatre, August 26, 2013.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your audition time in order to fill out paper work.

Students will not be considered for BOC activities without an audition.

Audition for UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY will take place from 3:00-6:00pm.

Only UNDERGRADUATE students are to sign up for this time.

A THREE MINUTE MONOLOGUE TEXT TAKEN FROM A PLAY OR MUSICAL

UNDERGRADUATE REPERTOIRE:
TWO OPERATIC ARIAS IN EITHER FRENCH, ITALIAN, GERMAN, ENGLISH
(English selection may be a translation or music theatre selection)
PIANIST
A PIANIST WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE AUDITIONS. IF PREFERABLE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BRING YOUR OWN PIANIST.
